It has been 9 days since the suburbs of Kelmscott, Roleystone and surrounds were devastated by bushfires. A reported 72 homes were lost with others suffering degrees of damage. The damage to the spirit of those affected is not quantifiable.
In an effort to give those who have lost their homes and possessions something to mark the start of the next phase of their lives, I initiated Memory Muster. In all its simplicity, photography sessions and new photographs to fill the void of those precious photos that may have been lost in the fires.
I sent out an open call to photographers residing and/or working in the Perth area to see if they would avail themselves to assist those people affected. I didn’t need to ask twice.
The generosity of the photographers thus far sees Memory Muster with 52 portrait sessions, 2 pet sessions and 2 wedding sessions available to those affected by the Perth fires. I am sure there will be more added in the coming days and weeks.
The next phase of the project will be to get word to eligible recipients. I have held back from any concentrated effort in initiating this as we would all be aware these people have far more pressing and emotional matters to attend to.
Memory Muster has however received its first nomination for a recipient. When the time is right and after conferring with recipients those who give their permission will be mentioned on the blog. Otherwise they may choose to remain anonymous.
I extend my sincere thanks to all of you who have spread the word about this project and those who have come aboard.
