Masters the new hardware super store to rival Bunnings

I am a bit of a sucker for a great hardware store. They are full of possibility for home decorating and landscaping and so much more. I especially like to torture my husband with my big plans that he would have to implement.

Recently a new gigantic hardware store opened here in Perth, actually it is in Bibra Lake. I think it is owned by Woolworths and is their answer to Bunnings. I couldn’t resist a visit and snapped a couple of photos to share with other hardware store lovers.

It was fun to explore and there were a few items available here that were different to other hardware stores. The aisles were clear of all the annoying extra boxes that so often clog up the other stores. I hope it stays that way.

For Aviation Geeks and Little People

There are many people among us with an interest in aviation, for me personally it is more of an interest in the destination that planes can take us too. But the wonder of a child watching aircraft takeoff and land is a delight all of it’s own.

Here in Perth there is a Public Viewing Area where you can watch all the plane happenings, and believe me there are a few. It is not within one of the terminal, where you are cut off from most of the experience but situated out in the open along side the runway on the new road that links the domestic terminal and the international terminal.

To give you an idea I snapped a few photos the other day.

Thee is a boardwalk/ramp that has been designed to ensure people with walking aids can gain easy access.

Kent Street Weir Park – Canning River Regional Park

So park aficionados are you ready for the next park review? This is a bit of a suburban secret, less playground more of a naturescape deal. But, there is still a playground.

Located at the end of Kent Street Wilson

One of the best things about this park is that there is a cafe on site that is open seven days a week. Upon enquiry of a staff member I was informed it is open 7am – 5pm unless there are extreme weather conditions (i.e. Storm or extreme heat). Coffee in the park anyone?

There is also toilets, BBQ’s and some picnic tables and benches.

When simple is enough

I never thought I would say this, however the truth of the matter is, some times I just don’t feel like eating at a restaurant when the opportunity presents itself.

This week my husband and I celebrated our thirteenth wedding anniversary and instead of going out for dinner to a restaurant we decided to kick it old school and go for a nice picnic.

When the kids were at school we took ourselves off to The Herdsman in Perth for a little gourmet shopping spree.

We were hoping to take ourselves down to the beach where we got married, with our array of fine foods, to watch the sunset, but this was thwarted by the very late arrival of the babysitter. With not enough time left to make it to the beach we settled for a high spot closer to home with a pretty decent view.

The evening was quite cool so we were very pleased we had remembered to bring blankets and huge floor cushions to sit on. It was a really lovely way to spend a few hours together and enjoy the simplicity of a picnic.

Piney Lakes Reserve (Park) – Melville – Western Australia

Situated between Leach Highway and Murdoch is this 67ha multi use parkland belonging to the City of Melville.

With the lake, waterfall, plenty of open spaces, sensory playground, amenities, BBQ and boardwalk there is sure to me something enjoyable for every member of the family.

There is less emphasis on traditional playground equipment for children and more on exploring their surroundings.

One down side to note it the toilets are often in need of a freshen up, probably due to frequent use, so I advise you take necessary precautions.

Garvey Park – Ascot – Western Australia

Located at the river end of Fauntleroy Avenue Ascot WA is Garvey Park

A sandpit base on a playground that has shade sail cover.

BBQ’s

Table and bench seats

Mini court basketball

Toilets in the elevated club house that are open for public use

A kiosk that operates Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 4pm, Monday and Tuesday from 7am to 2pm, and public holidays.

All located at the river’s edge where you can watch plenty of wildlife or river craft pass by.

Please note, being a river side location I would always advise you take some mosquito repellant to ensure maximum comfort.
